Walmart's Simplified Shipping Settings migration just got a lot easier

On October 7, 2026, Walmart Marketplace announced that sellers still running legacy Shipping Templates can now move to Simplified Shipping Settings (SSS) in a single guided step, instead of rebuilding carrier rules item by item. It is a quiet release note, but for any seller who has been putting off the switch, it removes the main excuse for staying on templates.
What was actually announced
Shipping Templates has been the manual way to tell Walmart how an item ships: fixed transit times, fixed carrier assignments, set once and rarely revisited. Simplified Shipping Settings, Walmart's newer system, instead calculates dynamic transit times per order based on your configured carriers and the buyer's location, then automatically routes the order to the best fulfillment center. Until this release, moving a catalog from templates to SSS meant reconfiguring settings manually. The October 7 update adds a one-click item migration flow inside Seller Center: pick your preferred carriers and shipping services, select "Migrate my items," and Walmart moves all eligible SKUs and their settings over automatically. Walmart's developer documentation confirms the migration runs in the background and completes within roughly six hours, and that it is reversible if something looks off.
Why it matters for your delivery promise
Delivery speed estimates are part of what buyers see before they click Add to Cart, and they are part of how Walmart's own search and badge logic treats a listing. Static templates tend to set conservative transit windows because they cannot account for which fulfillment center is actually closest to a given buyer. SSS recalculates that per order, which is why Walmart and third-party integrators have reported promise times cutting by more than a day on migrated items, along with measurable lift in conversion on those same SKUs.
- Dynamic transit times instead of one fixed window across every buyer location.
- Automatic fulfillment center selection based on your configured carrier network.
- Works with free and paid shipping across most domestic USPS, UPS and FedEx services.
- Does not cover Ship to Store, international, freight, or third-party logistics providers like Flexport — those items stay on templates.
What this means for brands
If your catalog has sat on Shipping Templates because migrating felt like a project, that friction is now mostly gone. The bigger strategic point is that Walmart keeps investing in SSS as the default shipping configuration, which signals where the platform is heading — sellers still on manual templates a year from now will likely be working against the grain of how Walmart ranks and badges fast-shipping offers.
- Run the migration on your highest-velocity SKUs first; that is where a faster promise time moves the most revenue.
- Items on Ship to Store, international, or 3PL fulfillment will not migrate — confirm which parts of your catalog are eligible before you start.
- Because the move is reversible, there is little downside to testing it on a subset of items before migrating the full catalog.
What we do about it
We are migrating client catalogs to Simplified Shipping Settings in batches this month, starting with top sellers and anything currently flagged for slow promise times. For accounts with mixed fulfillment — some FBA-style, some 3PL, some Ship to Store — we are mapping out which SKUs are eligible before touching anything, since a partial migration done carelessly can leave reporting inconsistent across the catalog.
If you are not sure whether your Walmart catalog is still on legacy templates, that is usually a five-minute check in Seller Center — and now a fast fix once you know.
